ZEPHANIAH, BENJAMIN, author2025English
Benjamin Zephaniah (1958-2023) was a writer and performer of extraordinary range - an oral poet, novelist, playwright, children's writer, reggae artist, actor, television personality and political activist. Born and raised in Birmingham, he was sent to an approved school for being uncontrollable, rebellious and 'a born failure', ending up in jail for burglary and affray. After prison he turned from crime to music and poetry. He was later nominated for Oxford Professor of Poetry, and voted Britain's third favourite poet of all time (after T.S. Eliot and John Donne) in a BBC poll. 'Dis Poetry' brings together all the poems from Benjamin's three 'Bloodaxe' collections, 'City Psalms' (1992), 'Propa Propaganda' (1996) and 'Too Black, Too Strong' (2001), as well as some from 'The Dread Affair' (1985), along with previously unpublished work and lyrics from various recordings.

My friend Andy

Chinnery, Emma, illustrator2025English
When Fluffy gets lost, Andy and his Dad find him and together they look for Lilly. A carefully-observed story that challenges us to re-evaluate perceptions of homelessness. Everyday, little dog Fluffy walks through the city with Mum and Lilly. And everyday, they walk past Andy. But they are never allowed to play with him. Until one day, Fluffy gets lost, and this changes forever. With the help of Andy and his Dad, Fluffy searches high and low for Lilly. But will they ever be reunited? Told through Fluffy's eyes, this book brilliantly grasps a child-like naivety that questions what is and encourages us to imagine what should be. With her stunning watercolour illustrations, Emma Chinnery shows her mastery at capturing the nuances of everyday life in this simple - yet poignant - story about the blossoming friendship of two dogs living in the same city. .

How to survive on the Moon

Morancy, Joalda, author2025English
An illustrated guide aimed at kids, providing practical tips for lunar survival. Humans are heading back to the moon. But once we get there, how on the moon will we stay alive? In this practical guide, future astronauts will learn how to build underground cities in lava tubes, shield themselves from razor-sharp moon dust, and grow the food they’ll need to survive life away from our home planet. As well as practical tips, Morancy lifts a lid on some of the coolest developments in lunar science – including the possibility of a space lift and the giant catapult that could be used to get stuff back to Earth. Like Andy Weir’s The Martian everything in this space book is based on real, groundbreaking science. And no one is better placed to write it: when they’re not writing kids’ books, Joalda Morancy is building the lunar lander the Artemis missions will use to take astronauts – including the first woman and first person of colour – to the surface! Hilarious illustrations by award-winning artist Aaron Cushley, including graphic novel elements, convey the wonder and excitement of future space travel and give this book a key point of difference from other solar system books.

Ghosts of the British Museum : a true story of colonial loot and restless objects

Angell, Noah, 1980-, author2024 - 2025English
What if the British Museum isn't a house of learning, but a vast sinkhole of still-bubbling historic injustice? What if it presents us not with a carefully ordered cross section of history but is instead a palatial trophy cabinet of colonial loot swarming with volatile and errant spirits? When artist and writer Noah Angell first heard murmurs of ghostly sightings at the British Museum he had to find out more. What started as a trickle soon became a landslide as staff old and new, from guards of formidable build to respected curators, brought forth testimonies of their inexplicable supernatural encounters. It became clear that the source of the disturbances was related to the Museum's contents - unquiet objects, holy plunder, and restless human remains protesting their enforced stay within the colonial collection's cases, cabinets and deep underground vaults.
