The mystery of the Bayeux Tapestry

The Bayeux Tapestry is a familiar and much cherished work of art, but it remains baffling in many ways. Commissioned shortly after 1066 by William the Conqueror's half-brother, Bishop Odo of Bayeux, it is filled with vivid, detailed depictions of the Norman Conquest which, paradoxically, were almost certainly the work of Anglo-Saxons not Normans. This controversial and completely original examination of one of the great landmarks of history will fascinate scholars and lay public alike.
