The memoirs of Emeritus Professor of Nursing Elizabeth Nneka Anionwu. Born in 1947 to an unmarried mother who had been studying Classics, Elizabeth lived in care for 9 years and was subjected to physical abuse by her stepfather before being rescued by her grandparents. Here, she tells how she overcame many ups and downs due to being mixed-race and went on to achieve a great deal throughout her life.
