The colour of pomegranates [videorecording]

2011
DVDs and BluRay
Critically-acclaimed Russian arthouse feature from the Soviet era. The film covers the life of the 18th century Armenian poet Arutiun Sayadin (Sofiko Chiaureli), also known as Sayat Nova. He began as a carpet weaver's apprentice, then became a court minstrel and finally an archbishop. The film's director Paradjanov was imprisoned in 1974 and on his release in 1977 a copy of this film was smuggled into the West. The Soviet authorities eventually agreed to it being shown 6 years later.
