Abstract: Mishke was seven years old when the Nazis took her Jewish parents from her. All she knew was that they had gone East. So one day, the little girl set out Eastwards to find them. Alone, Mishke crossed Belgium, Germany and Poland. Close to starvation, a family of wolves befriended her. She ate and played with the wolf cubs, protected by their mother. Mishke continued walking for four years, encountering many unspeakable horrors: at one point, she is forced to kill a German soldier to save her own life. Eventually, via the Ukraine, Romania and Italy, she found her way home to Belgium.
