As bombs whistle down on the North East of England during the Second World War, Marie Larsen fights to keep her family safe. When her father goes missing and her mother is injured during an air raid, only Marie is left to look after her brother and sister, Pam and Alfie. Marie knows that the safest place for them is at their evacuation posts away from the bombings in Hull, but when she discovers that Alfie is bitterly unhappy with his foster family, she faces a heart-wrenching decision.
