Wintersmoon

Walpole, Hugh2022
Book
Wintersmoon by Hugh Walpole is a romantic tale turned inside out. In the sake of convenience and companionship, Janet Grandison marries Wildherne Poole. The contract does not include love. Janet wants to buy a house for her sister Rosalind, while Wildherne wants a child to inherit his fortune and title since the married lady he loves is unable to do so. Nothing goes as expected. Wildherne and Rosalind are intolerable to one another. In order to avoid having to live in Wintersmoon, she marries a man she doesn't love. Janet ends herself in conflict with Wildherne's mother and her group. Then she discovers she is pregnant with her husband's kid and in love with him. Although Wildherne has come to love Janet as well, neither of them would speak out because they both consented to a loveless union.
