The Cornish coast murder

Bude, John, 1901-19572019
Large Print
Never, even in his most optimistic moments, had he visualised a scene of this nature: himself in one arm-chair, a police officer in another, and between them - a mystery. So thinks the Reverend Dodda, vicar of the quiet Cornish village of Boscawen and a reader of detective novels when an actual mystery unexpectedly lands on his doorstep. The Reverend Dodd, Vicar of St.-Michael's-on-the-Cliff, spends his evenings reading detective stories - but heaven forbid that the shadow of REAL crime should ever fall across his seaside parish! Then his peace is shattered one stormy night when Julius Tregarthan, a secretive and ill-tempered magistrate, is found with a bullet through his head. Suspicion falls on Tregarthan's niece Ruth, whose budding romance with a novelist had met with her uncle's disapproval. Yet the Reverend Dodd doubts her culpability. It's up to him to apply skills he's gleaned from mystery fiction to solving a very real crime.
