The final straw was when Sue left her steady job at a St Helen's factory to try her hand at that unsteadiest of jobs: acting. Biography/History:
Sue Johnston's much-loved roles over thirty years include Sheila Grant in Brookside, Barbara in The Royle Family (for which she won Best Comedy Actress), Sal Vine in Jam & Jerusalem and Dr Grace Foley in Waking the Dead. She was born in Warrington in 1943, has one son. She supports Liverpool Football Club, and in 2009 she was awarded an OBE.
