Summary

The discovery of a secret diary in Brunelleschi’s dome in Florence Cathedral draws photographer Jo Spencer unwittingly into a string of murders and involvement of the Camora crime syndicate. The diary reveals what happened when Brunelleschi and the sculptor Donatello visited Rome in 1406, searching for the secrets of ancient Rome. In that lawless city, riven by religious factions vying for power during the Papal Schism, they discovered themselves as artists and men. They brought back to Florence the spark that ignited the Renaissance but their discovery of the missing fragments of the Gospel of Mary was condemned as heresy demanding destruction by some and a valuable collectors prize by others.
